Easy To Make Italian Tiramisu

Tiramisu is a very popular Italian dessert, and I’m sure you’ve already heard or even had it before. With the rich flavor of mixed cocoa, espresso or brewed coffee, mascarpone cheese, wine, and ladyfinger biscuits, you’d have a very delicious after-dinner dessert that you and your family members will surely enjoy.

The term ‘tiramisu’ actually means ‘pick me up’ or ‘carry me up’. Well, that’s not hard to do as this dessert is a real indulgence. I’m telling you right now, one slice won’t be enough! 🙂

Back in the day, this after-dinner indulgence was made using a loose custard. But in recent years, the use of mascarpone cheese became the trend, and that’s exactly what we are going to use in this recipe.

As tiramisu became more and more popular, variations were made available. One of them is the so-called chocolate tiramisu, wherein instead of coffee, chocolate is utilized. Fruit tiramisu came into the picture as well, which usually involves apricots, berries, and peaches. As for the gelato, yogurt, and ice cream lovers, these food items can actually take the place of the custard.

There are more variations out there, but we are going to focus on a more traditional tiramisu recipe…

Scale

Ingredients

2 packages ladyfinger cookies (3 ounces each pack)

1 tablespoon cocoa powder (unsweetened)

2 tablespoons rum

1 pound mascarpone cheese

1/4 cup brewed coffee

1 1/4 cups heavy cream

3/4 cup white sugar

2/3 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 large egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Put the egg yolks in a saucepan and mix well. Turn to medium heat and add milk. Stir constantly and wait until it starts to boil. Remove from heat after a minute and then allow to cool before leaving in the fridge for an hour.
  2. Put cream and vanilla in a medium bowl and beat until stiff peaks form.
  3. Add mascarpone into the yolk mixture and mix until smooth.
  4. Combine coffee and rum in a separate bowl.
  5. Split ladyfingers in half (lengthwise) and drizzle with coffee mixture.
  6. Using a 7X11-inch dish, arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers and then pour over mascarpone mixture. Top with half of the whipped cream. Repeat the layering and then sprinkle with cocoa.
  7. Refrigerate for about 4 hours until it sets.

Notes

The mascarpone cheese and coffee should both be at room temperature. And for better results, go for a strong-tasting brewed coffee.

One important thing that you must remember when making tiramisu is that you should only use the freshest ingredients. Never use something that is close to its expiration date as that will significantly affect the result.

The first step, which is whipping the egg yolks, is very important. You should do it correctly as under whipping them will also ruin the recipe. If you are not comfortable using the saucepan when beating the egg yolks, feel free to utilize a bowl instead.

Even if it’s your first time making this Italian Tiramisu recipe, there is no doubt that it will be a success as long as you follow the steps and tips above.
