Description
If you have already tasted some authentic teriyaki dishes in some Japanese restaurants, you may find this one a little less spicy because of the lessened ginger. This is the American version, so this must suit your taste buds better. But other than that, you can savor the original taste of a teriyaki dish. And with steamed broccoli, the combination is so delightful that you may forget going to fast foods for chicken altogether.
Ingredients
Chicken:
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 pound of chicken breast (boneless, skinless, and cut into 1-inch pieces)
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Kosher salt, to taste
Sesame seeds, for garnish
Chopped green onion, for garnish
Cooked rice, for serving
Steamed broccoli, for serving
Sauce:
1 ½ tablespoons of vegetable oil
1/3 cup of low-sodium soy sauce
1 ½ tablespoons of wine vinegar
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 ½ tablespoon of honey
2 cloves of garlic, minced
2 teaspoons of cornstarch
Instructions
- To prepare the chicken, heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Toss chicken into the skillet and season with salt and black pepper. Cook until golden brown or approximately 10 minutes.
- To make the sauce, whisk soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch together in a medium-sized bowl.
- Pour sauce over chicken on the skillet and let it simmer. Wait for the chicken to be cooked or when the sauce has thickened.
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and serve over rice with steamed broccoli.
Notes
While we used chicken in this easy-to-prepare recipe, you can alternate beef, pork, or fish. Just the same, they are all easy to prepare. Of course, what may differ is the cooking time. And if you want a spicier version like those in Japanese restaurants, you can add some more ginger.
