Microwave Splatter? Try These Cleaning Tips

Every appliance that you have at home needs a little TLC in order for them to last long enough. I know, though, that many of us hate cleaning, especially those that are greasy and have food splatters or stains like the microwave. This task can be tedious, but it is something that you must do if you want to ensure the safety of your food.

To help you get rid of microwave splatter, here are things that you can utilize:

Rug

Food splattered in a microwave can be removed by simply using a rug. And while you are at it, go ahead and wipe all the surfaces, including the exterior. As much as possible, do this every day so that you can avoid dirt buildup.

Wet Paper Towels

If a rug is not enough to remove the dirt, you can get some wet paper towels, put them inside the microwave, and run it on high power for about 3 to 5 minutes. The steam should help loosen up the grime. Once the towels cool down, you can utilize them to wipe the interior and exterior of the appliance.

Dish Soap

Dish soap is not only for doing the dishes. You can also use it to clean your microwave. How? Mix it with warm water and use it to wipe down the interior. That should remove grease as well as tiny food particles.

Water

Dealing with caked-on grime? One thing that you can do is to heat a cup of water in the microwave for about 3 minutes and then keep the door closed for another 3 minutes so that steam will fill the inside of the microwave. This will help loosen the grime, allowing you to easily wipe it down.

Baking Soda

Some splatters are easy to remove, but some are really stubborn. If the water method is not good enough, try using baking soda. Create a paste by mixing baking soda and water and then wipe it down with a cloth.

Lemon or Vinegar

If you are aiming to get rid of the odor of the food that you reheated in the microwave last night, the best option really is steam cleaning. But this time, add some lemon juice or vinegar. This should make your appliance smell fresh.

Water and Vinegar

Fill a microwave-safe bowl halfway with water and then add one tablespoon of white vinegar. Set the microwave on high for 5 minutes, which will then steam up the walls. Wipe the inside down with a clean rug.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

Most households have vinegar and baking soda. This duo works really well when dealing with microwave splatter. Simply dissolve the baking soda in water with vinegar, dip a rug, and use it to wipe down the interior of your microwave.

Window Cleaner Solution

Do you have a window cleaner available? Dilute it in water and then soak a sponge in it. You can then utilize the sponge to wipe the interior of the microwave.

Commercial Solutions

Investing in commercial solutions is also a smart idea. Just make sure to look for a good product, one that can remove just about any mess in your microwave.
