Homemade Hot Cocoa With Marshmallows
As soon as the temperature starts dropping, your drink preferences would surely change, too. From milkshakes or fruit juices, you would want to have a mug of something hot. While coffee is probably the most popular hot drink, especially in the morning, hot cocoa is right there as well. I’m sure you have a stash of an instant powdered mix in your home, especially if you have little kids around. It’s their favorite, and I bet you loved it when you were a kid as well.
Most busy parents out there prefer instant hot cocoa. But did you know that making it from scratch is not really that hard? This allows you to add more cocoa powder to have a little bit of a stronger result. Or, you can add more milk, too, if you want your drink to be milkier or creamier. And, of course, the most exciting part of it all……the marshmallows! If you make your own hot cocoa, you can add as many marshmallows as you want! 🙂
Before I show you how to make homemade hot cocoa with marshmallows, let me just clarify that hot cocoa and hot choco are actually different. They are often used interchangeably. So what’s the difference? Hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder, while hot choco is made with melted chocolate and sweetened milk.

Other Tips
Are you trying to lose weight? No worries, there are certain things that you can do to reduce the calorie content of your hot cocoa. Instead of using whole milk, utilize reduced-fat or skim milk. You also have the option to reduce the amount of sugar that you are adding.
Now, if you want hot choco instead of hot cocoa, simply replace the cocoa powder with melted chocolate. It would be good to grate it so it would be easier to melt. And to avoid your hot drink from being too sweet, especially when you utilize sweetened milk, decrease the amount of sugar in this recipe.
