Description
With a combination of split peas, ham bone, and other veggies, you can have a warm, flavorful, and very satisfying soup.
Ingredients
2 cups split peas
1 ham bone
6 cups chicken broth (low-sodium)
2 medium carrots (peeled and chopped)
2 stalks celery (chopped)
3 sprigs thyme
1 large onion (diced)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon ginger (ground)
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (crushed)
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Put all the ingredients into the slow cooker.
- Set on high and cook for about 5 hours or until the split peas are soft.
- Shred the meat and get rid of the bone.
- Serve.
Notes
If you prefer cooking on low, it may take you about 6 to 8 hours. When serving, you can top a bowl of split pea soup with some croutons.
