Extra Crispy Restaurant-Style Hash Browns

Looking for a brilliant breakfast side dish recipe? Let’s go for something classic…..The old-time favorite extra crispy hash browns! Restaurant-style, too! 🙂

I am sure you are very much familiar with what I am talking about. They serve it at Mickey D’s and almost all diners out there. They are made with shredded potatoes and cooked in such a way that they are fluffy on the inside and toasty and crispy on the outside. Deliciously tasty!!!

Hash browns are not merely a side dish. They can actually be your main breakfast meal. They are best eaten with eggs and a cup of hot coffee or cocoa. And you know what? You can make them in just 15 to 20 minutes.

But first of all, let’s see why hash browns are good for breakfast…

Hash browns are made with potatoes, which are packed with nutrients just like other vegetables. This is why potatoes are a staple food in many households. They also contain antioxidants that help in neutralizing free radicals. Eating potatoes would then help avoid the development of chronic diseases.

Studies show that this type of vegetable may also aid digestion. Potatoes are naturally gluten-free and incredibly filling, which is exactly what you need for breakfast.

Looks impressive, tastes amazing…This recipe for extra crispy restaurant-style hash browns is a must-try!

4 medium potatoes (peeled)

1 medium onion

1 large egg (beaten)

vegetable oil

salt and pepper to taste

  1. Coarsely grate the peeled potatoes as well as the onion.
  2. Put the grated potatoes and onion into a clean tea towel. Squeeze the towel to remove the excess liquid.
  3. Transfer the squeezed potatoes and onion into a large bowl and add the beaten egg. Mix well and add a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan. Once hot, add spoonfuls of the potato mixture. Flatten them out into patties.
  5. Flip over and make sure that both sides turn brown and crispy.
  6. Serve.

You can flatten the ‘patties’ into half-inch thick. Each side should be cooked in about 3 minutes. Make sure that the oil is hot enough but not smoking.

Serving the Hash Browns

Hash browns are good with ketchup or even maple syrup just like when you eat pancakes. They can be served with other side dishes or toppings, too. You can top your hash browns with parmesan, apple slices and chopped green onions, ricotta and cinnamon, pear and honey, pimiento cheese, cucumber and tajin, blue cheese and nuts, and so much more. You can even eat them with eggs, ham, and bacon on the side.

Like what we have said earlier, you may opt to eat your hash browns on their own, too.

Closing Thoughts

Hash browns are easy to prepare, and you don’t need to have fancy ingredients either. They are good for breakfast, especially if you are in a hurry to head out for work. With the right technique, you can ensure that they are extra crispy and they look like what is being served at the restaurants.
