You really don’t have to drink whiskey as is. Mind you, there are so many things that you can do with this type of distilled alcoholic beverage to make it smoother and more enjoyable. With the classic whiskey smash, also known as ‘bourbon smash’, you won’t even notice that you are actually taking a sip of an alcoholic drink.

So what exactly does whiskey smash contain? Bourbon whiskey, simple syrup, muddled mint leaves, and muddles lemon wedges. That’s all you need to come up with an exciting beverage, perfect to spice up your night hanging out with friends or even your loved ones.

Muddled lemons, fresh mint leaves, and sugar are what make the base of this Classic Whiskey Smash. One sip and you will surely fall in love with whiskey!



2 oz. whiskey

3 tbsp. mint leaves (about 8 leaves)

1/2 lemon (cut into 4 pieces)

1 tbsp. white sugar

1 c. crushed ice


  1. Put the lemon, mint leaves, and sugar in a cocktail shaker. Mix well until sugar is fully dissolved and lemon juice has come out.
  2. Add the whiskey, put the lid back on, and shake for about 30 seconds.
  3. Transfer the output into an old fashioned glass.
  4. Add the crushed ice and garnish with mint sprigs.


Make sure to fill the glass halfway with crushed ice. It is also highly recommended to use a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon when mashing the mint leaves and lemon.
